[Avid-L2] Anyone have TransferManager experience?

Hello Avid-L2 Listers!

I've gotten great advice from the group in the past so here goes again.

We have a 6TB LANShare/Unity with four Media Composer systems and a FlipFactory to move edited material to our Omneon air server. We have yet to figure out how to move material back to the LANShare from the Omneon and now we are considering the purchase of a Grass Valley switcher with a Summit K2 server for our studio. Moving assets from the Grass Valley server to the Avid systems for editing or to the Omneon server for air is our current challenge.

Does anyone here have any experiences with this sort of workflow and could you offer some advice on how we might proceed while avoiding the larger pot holes? As far as I can tell, the TransferManager is a mythological beast that has plugins for the FlipFactory and the Grass Valley Summit K2 server and will make life peachy-keen for all of us in TV land. Unfortunately I can't nail down any specifics on how this happens or what it might cost. I was told earlier today that an Avid representative might be coming for a visit next week to explain the benefits of the TransferManager but before then I'd like to have a better grasp on the situation so I can ask semi-intelligent questions.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance for any insight you can give.

Regards,
Bob Carroll
