Subject: [Avid-L2] Re: Going Digital?
I think I misused the word "digital"
Because the information in the tape is digital. I meant tape less.
What they are telling me to do is kind of confusing that's why I would like some opinions and advice on this.
We shoot the church services. Here is a brief description of our setup: we have three cameras and send the video signal to a Panasonic switcher using an S- video cable. The camera director decides which camera goes live and the video is recorded in a deck on tape.
Someone is suggesting (this someone is a computer expert but does not have any experience in video) that we send the video signal from the cameras via firewire to a computer software which would allow to do the switching. He says that using the S cable is sending an analog signal to the switcher which is digital and that would eliminate that conversion so everything from the beginning will be Digital. So I quite don't understand all that. I don't know if that would improve the video quality somehow. I also have conerns with the archival process in a server.
I really appreciate your advice.
THANKS
