This is Apple's attempt to own the e-book market. A big aspect of this product release are the deals with the publishing community. In addition, it answers the netbook situation for Mac owners. Note that there are accessories, like a keyboard, stands, etc. So it meets the needs of mobile surfing, e-mail, word processing and maybe even light graphics and photo editing. I wonder if it can handle Keynote presentations.

As more computing is moved into the "cloud" (maybe a pipeline dream, maybe the future) this type of device might become a more functional front-end. For video editing, think of an iMovie-style GUI. Then, of course, there's Max-T, which Avid acquired. That's a LAN and web-based editing app.

I presume you could probably do iMovie on it soon, without too much effort; except that iMovie and iPhoto are designed to have all the media library resident on your system. Doesn't work with this ... unless you have one giant lump of media in the "cloud" - or on a networked storage system.

Given the horsepower Apple is putting in something like iMac, it is conceivable to see MacPro go away in a few years.
