I know what you mean. Reminds of the first preread D2s. What a mindf$%k.

Adds 2:3 pulldown. Avid wouldn't do this until they could do it right.

<< IS IT APPLYING pulldown on the fly?>>

Yes.

<< What is the quality of this pulldown?>>

Uh, adding extra fields is easy.

<<Can you determine the pulldown cadence?>>

Not that I know of.

<< And since it has to be doing it on a clip by clip basis how does dissolves between two clips with آ "motion adapters"?>>

This is a distinction between MC and Symphony Universal. The mic and match will add pulldown to each clip that needs it. But they won't necessarily have matching cadence to each other. In other words, each shot will be like a shot transferred from film to tape. If you took those shots form tape and edited them together, each shot would have proper cadence, but any two shot cut together may not match cadence.

Symphony Universal on the other hand would add the 2:3 cadence to the entire show as one unit on output so you would have a consistent cadence.

<<That is my main concern. I want clients to shoot 23.97p for the "film look" they love. But the biggest part of that is the look and feel of pulldown.>>

Again, on a shot by shot basis you are golden.

<<What happens with 60i material in a 23.97p project?>>

Avid is using the Fluidmotion technology to get a smooth shot. The results I have seen have been scary good. I haven't run every type of motion, etc. through the process yet, and I would be surprised if there weren't shots that didn't hold up so well. But all the work I have done so far has been impressive. Again, the folks in Tewks were waiting until they could get it right. (Not like some other folks we know...)

<<What is the performance hit for this?>>

RT. And don't ask me how they are doing this, I have no idea. But it does make we want to ask why I can't get RT masks in the color corrector....

<<It is all for broadcast anyway.>>

Oh well, no one seems to give a crap in that arena anymore anyway...

(Bitter, party of one please....)
