links the files correctly but no good for Avid unless I am missing a
trick. I did a test by recording for 26 mins or so on the camera
resulting in one file of around 3.7GB and one of around 800MB. In FCP,
this came in correctly as one clip. In MC 4.0.2, I had to manually
import both parts and stitch them together in the Timeline. Now - here
is the weird thing. In Avid, there was a gap of 13 frames in source TC
between the end of the first clip and the beginning of the second
clip. The total duration of the clips came in at 26m:13s:23f (PAL). In
FCP the reported clip length was 26m:12s:12f. WTF as we say? The shot
was locked off with little movement so can't tell if frames were
actually missing in Media Composer. I am still pondering this!
Otherwise (for moderate length takes) the CF method is good.

M2T files are natively supported by Media Composer for import. Its a
simple rewrap, not transcode.
Its my understanding that the GOP for each M2T file is correctly
closed at an I-Frame. If spanned clips are imported, they can be
dropped one after the other and no frames are lost. There might
actually be a duplicate frame at the cut point.
If you'd like to combine the spanned M2T files use the "Sony Recording
Unity Utility." This will combine the M2T files into a single file.
