I graduated from Video Symphony's Film & Video Editing program four months ago but for the life of me I can't seem to find any Avid editing (or related) jobs. I've gone through 'paying your dues' working for free on indy films, documentaries and short-form just to get experience but they've all been Final Cut gigs.
I've spent a year getting extensive training on Avid and even worked (for free) as an assistant online editor (Symphony) for a show that's currently airing on Bravo. When I browse online to look for job openings all I see are Final Cut Pro jobs. I live in L.A. and I'm pretty sure it's still an Avid town so are the Avid shops just not hiring or do you really have to know someone in the industry to catch a break? I'm willing to start at the bottom even as a logger just as long as I'm working on an Avid. Don't get me wrong...I like FCP and know it well it's just I prefer working on Avid as I'm sure most of you do too.
Perhaps I've been approaching my job hunting all wrong so any advice you can provide will surely be appreciated.
