[Avid-L2] HVRA1U C-MOS 1080i HDV Camcorder

I've been looking to purchase a camera, and have been looking at the HVRA1U C-MOS 1080i HDV Camcorder made by Sony. Has any one worked with this or knows if it's a good quality? If not, does anyone know of a good quality camera that shoots HD, but is not too pricey? I'm trying to stay under $4,000.
