We've never had a problem with any damaged shells, but a damaged door can cause problems. You can take the door off the cassette.

Subject: [Avid-L2] OT: Mini-DV Cassette Issue
Hi Everyone -
We ran into an issue last week with one of our mini-DV adapters that we
use to play mini-DV tape in our DVCPro deck for ingesting purposes into
our Media Composer. It is apparently no longer holding the tape
properly and two of our mini-DV cassettes were damaged (mainly the
cassette - not the tape itself). We didn't realize what was happening
until we looked closely at the second tape.
Has anyone had a problem with a damaged cassette shell and found a
vendor who might be able to transfer the tape into a new shell?
Thanks for any ideas you might have.
