At the risk of pushing yet ANOTHER of my books, check out Focal Press'
"Avid Xpress Pro and DV On the Spot." (Was released by CMP Books)

Despite the title, most of the tips are good for almost any version of
Media Composer or even Symphony. I just checked out random pages for a
few minutes and didn't see one tip that didn't also apply to Media
Composer.

The On The Spot series from Focal was Richard Harrington's brainchild,
I believe. It's a VERY cool series of books about many different
pieces of software. Basically the concept is a non-linear book. You
don't read it from start to finish. Each book has several hundred
short tips (I call it "bathroom reading.") so you can just open the
book up to a random page, read for 30 seconds and you have probably
learned something new. The longest tips are a page long, and some are
three tips to a page. There are On The Spot books for After Effects,
Final Cut Pro, and Broadcast Graphics.

Moving keyframes or "4:3 safe title in 16:9" is just proof that
there's no telling what kind of "gap" someone has in their knowledge.
So you may know SOME of the tips in the book, but I'd say that even an
experienced Avid editor will get 100 new tips out of it. And it's a
relatively low-cost title.

Basil Pappas and Steve Cohen's manual from the early 1990s is the one
that really got me going on getting the most out of the Avid UI.
