Pretty cool. There is still the learning curve of Smoke, but I think it is going to be popular anyway. Part of that will depend upon how fast a cracked version shows up for the students to play with.
Unfortunately they didn't have a FCP to Smoke demo set up. They did show the "soft import" of QT movies and DNxHD. This means you can start working with it right away like Avid's AMA approach as long as your source drives are fast enough.
The "batch" mode that is missing allows you to combine multiple effects within one "batch" that you can then apply to as many effects as you want. You still have the effects available in this version, just not the ability to do that with them.
The tracker is awesome as can be expected, and of course blows the MC / DS tracker away.
Still a one monitor interface which I really don't like. Give me real estate!
Working in the timeline is very similar to DS. Not really the way MC editors are used to. Of course this means FCP users will have an easier time understanding it....
