Bad example movie for your theory here. Using a DSLR for stop motion is not the same as using it for regular live action production. How many stop motion films are made these days? Harryhausen retired years ago.

Not sure if you know this or not but much of the roller coaster scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was shot with an SLR camera.
