[Avid-L2] Re: And Now a Word About Online Finishing

Chris,

I just don't know how someone can do offline and online, and do both well. Trying to craft a compelling and interesting story from a pile of raw footage is one thing, but then asking the same person to color correct the show, setup the deck with proper pulldown and reference, paint out a boom and crew member in 2 of the shots and make sure they preserve the cc info while they insert the fix to the tape seems like a pretty huge job description. To me it would be like asking the DP to not only shoot the movie but to cook dinner for the crew and come up with the entire budget for the production as well.

I really see a benefit and a higher quality end product if each member of the team does what they do best and can do it really well. I would never call myself a sound mixer, even if I do know how to use the audio mixer tool.

In our shop we think of most post production as one process and we employee post production specialists to create edits from soup to nuts. That means graphic design, effects, color correction and etc. This is a good fit for a great majority of projects provided you have the right people. The short of it is...THERE IS NO MORE ONLINE...THERE IS NO MORE OFFLINE for most projects.
