I'll give you a better answer. It cuts down on errors.

When it comes time to either export cut lists or output finals or do anything really, having disciplined track assignment and tidy timelines is both smart and time-saving. You're much less likely to miss something or accidentally leave a shot out (or leave a shot in!) if your eye knows what to look for.

Great article.

In a similar vein I like to keep my Timelines tidy (all captions go on this
track, all cutaways go on this track etc) and try to be consistent with
things like transitions (no, not one at 15, one at 16 and one at 14, let's
keep them all at 15 - it's neater). A young whippersnapper asked me the
other day "Why?" he continued "They all look the same, so why does it
matter?". I paused for a while, trying to think of a solid answer that
would nail him but the best I could come up with was "I guess it's because
I'm anal that way"
