Effen Gefen.... funny. I'll start using that. We have the same experience. Products seem great, work fine and then don't for no reason or don't work at all. One of our CAT5-7500 setups has been replaced twice and still flakey. Monitors just turn off for no reason or don't come up when you boot up. And why use six cat five cables when you can do the same more reliably with Avocent over one "real TCP/IP" cable?

We too are abandoning Effen Gefen for Avocent. We¹re also using the Avocent
HMX Manager to allow more flexible connectivity.

Pat,

We used Geffen extenders for our rooms with mixed success. The longer runs
are problematic. Especially at the 1920 scan rate. Geffen laid blame on
unshielded cat-5 cable. Our engineers said that was nonsense, just an
excuse. We changed cabling to optical and that helped a bit. Now testing
the Avocent line and that seems better. Likely changing over all six rooms
if testing proves positive.

See if you can run a test before you buy.
