I know it is too expensive for most but DVS Clipster will render 4K Red
files to HD DNx files (of all datarates, rasters and framerates) at
around 25 fps. They are not skipping any pixels and the mxf files are
properly wrapped. It makes an ALE to go with them so you drop them in
the Mediafiles folder and import the ALE and relink. Done.
It also does the same for Phantom HD and Gold .cine files (42 fps to
Avid native MXF DNxHD)
It also plays in realtime and debayers Arri D21 files (32 fps to Avid
native MXF DNxHD)
If you know a facility nearby with a Gen 3 Clipster you should go and
check it out.

"RT debayering has to happen"
My understanding is that for that to happen JJ has to work with Avid and
give them access to the required code. It hasn't happened yet, but that
doesn't mean it never will.
The only reason that FCP and Adobe got better and faster Red access
before
Avid was that Red worked with those companies to achieve that goal while
Avid were left on the sidelines asking "Please may we have an SDK, nice
Mr
Jannard?"
Unless someone knows better?

Sure, but let's stick to what works right now, out of the box.
> Eventually I want that to be zero, hands up who wants that?
Actually, I don't really care. My Avid handles P2 and XDCAMHD natively,
yet
I feel more comfortable transcoding it to DNxHD and work from there.
Whether
you copy (to a local or shared volume) or transcode the files, the time
difference is next to none.
But sure, would be great to just open up the files and get started. From
what I can tell, that would require an R3D AMA module, and if that
happens,
then somewhere in the pipeline, RT debayering has to happen.
