Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Why isn't Avid marketing all over this story?

Unfortunately I think you're absolutely right, Terry. And it's often accompanied by this strange "emperor has no clothes" phenomenon. I'm sure you've been in a million of these A/B, side-by-side demos in L.A. -- god knows I have -- where you have top-flight DPs testing RED vs. film and you're sitting in a screening room watching a film out of both and the RED is so obviously, so patently inferior to the film and yet people sit in there going, "Wow, look at the RED. Looks great." And I'm sitting there with my mouth on the floor. Are they looking at the same highlights, the same shadows, the same mid-range tones that I am? Are they serious?

Listen, I'm not an idiot. I understand the economic pressures on the industry right now. I deal with it every single day. But I don't like when people start pretending that a new format is anything more than it is. I'm no Luddite. I'm not against new technology and innovation. I thrive on it. But sure, film is old. So is the "Mona Lisa". Because every now and then we get something right. Really right. Film is that.

That's not just you. Unfortunately the market is now ruled by the race to the bottom in price and quality.
