The documentation is wrong, DS can take RED files any way you want to:
Directly; via EDL+ALE, AAF or AFE. Either way it will link up to the
original RED directory, and offer you a nice window on how you want
the files interpreted for your timeline.

I believe there is currently 0.1 persons working on this
documentation, so don't base any assumptions on it.
