No capability of having 14 fully licensed copies of VMWare installed
for a five week class. This is an OS X only facility. no emulation,
no budget for it.

Well apparently there are, but if you want to finish on DS and edit in
MC then Avid says (in a 5 month old document that may now be out of
date but is still Avid's official recommendation) then Avid says you
have to prep the MXF media for MC in MetaFuze or the output from MC
won't have the correct IDs.
I'd be happy to be pointed to more up-to-date documentation so I can
learn better, but as for workflow, Avid loses, quite seriously. Now
when/if Avid add REDcode to native AMA workflows, that will change
dramatically and I'll be only too happy to rewrite and recant!
