When I was stationed at the Pentagon back in the 90's we had 3 LD
recorders. Never got used because the blank discs were $75 each.

No the LD doesn't record, none of them did that. I have a Sony DVR with a
DVD recorder built-in. So I just select the Beta on the Pioneer receiver
and
dub away. I have done some LD to DVD transfers for folks that don't have
LD players, but own Japanese releases of stuff that never made it here.

The Beta used to look pretty good on my old XBR and HSR sets. But on my
XBR-970 it looks really ugly. Still better than VHS, but ugly.

I used to have a 8mm deck, but it succumbed to the dreaded Sony capacitor
disease. RIP

Your laserdisc player can record DVD's?!? I can't do that with mine!
hehe . . . . .
(I forgot to mention previously that I also have an LD player, one the
last and best of those as well, a Pioneer CLD-3090). Welcome to my
home video museum.
