You don't need a full frame sensor for 1080. It's only 2.1 megapixels.

They have those already. They go by different names, though -- like CineAlta or Genesis or Viper or RED. There's even this new, upstart company called Panavision and one even more wet behind the ears called Arri and they have this crazy high-resolution format that they claim can do all that and more. They call it... wait, let me make sure I get this right... film?

But something like that WOULD be the holy grail so I'm sure it's just some sort of urban legend.

Still waiting on the holy grail of full frame sensor, 1080 with frame rates
from 1 to 60.
