Blue mode is the real time playback using HW. It used to be "all green" lower left hand corner of the timeline. Green, yellow/green, yellow for full resolution, half resolution and quarter resolution. In blue mode everything on the timline needs to have been rendered.

Blue-dot? Isn't that lost in the mists of Xpress DV history? Or do you mean
blue-dot unrendered effects (but I imagine not).
