[Avid-L2] Re: Versioner vs Update File?

RT - that's a rough estimate but the versioner IS updated frequently and sometimes more than every 2 hours.

The MC versioner for example on the Download Center (the site for Support Peeps) contains the system ID/serial # of each MC system covered under contracts. So say you bought a contract 3 weeks ago.... the versioner on the DL at that time would have your system ID/serial # for 3.5 and the day we went live with 4.0.2, that versioner would now be updated for that.

Then lets say you buy a contract today. That contract is processed and entered into the main tracking system by OA ( order entry ) and the next revision of the versioner that day, will have your 4.0 entitlement.

Now say you downloaded 4.0.2 from the amnesty site because you bought and MC or an MC upgrade to 3.5 during the free upgrade period to get you 4.0. That versioner has all the system ID/serial #s that were registered between sept 1 and sept 30. The versioner is updated constantly to cover those that register during that timeframe.

If you don't fall into any of the above, then when you buy your upgrade you get a upgrade code. This code when activated, nets you 2 keys. One to upgrade your sw licensing and one to update your dongle. If going the dongle route, then you would do the normal activity.... www.avid.com/upgrade to take the system from say 3.5 to 4.0. Enter that code ( normally starts with MC35A ) and you will be able to download the avd file to flash your dongle.

If there is an issue .... tech can do a one off dongle blast as long as your dongle is legit/registered to you/eligible.

As RT says, when in doubt ( SW Licensing versus Dongle) use the 30 day Trial... but don't let the Trial expire - decide first and upgrade.
