[Avid-L2] Re: Maintaining the dongle with upgrade?

John

First, if you bought the upgrade on the store for example, you would have received 2 codes on the order confirmation. One for the SW licensing and one for the dongle.

If you wish to keep the dongle then do the following:

1.Unplug your dongle

2.Uninstall the current version of MC installed.Note this also includes uninstalling the other extra app's like EDL manager, etc. with Add/Remove program as this is best practice.

3.To obtain MC 4.0.2 you can access it on the Download Center here: http://www.avid.com/register/mcsoft_dl.asp OR you can download it from your webstore account from the upgrade purchase.

4.Download and install MC 4.0.2

5.Go to www.avid.com/upgrade

6.Enter in your information like system ID, dongle ID etc. along with the Dongle Upgrade Key/code on your order confirmation, first name and last name (from the original registration) and your email.

7.You will receive a download for updater.avd which you should save to your desktop.

8.Plug in your dongle

9. Update your dongle - if you forget how :) following the steps listed at www.avid.com/dongle

10.Launch MC 4.0.2 and you will be prompted with an activation window with five options, choose "I am upgrading from a previous version and would like to continue using my dongle (second to last option)".

11. The activation tool will confirm the information and you will have a message informing successful activation.
