RE: [Avid-L2] EX, XDCAM Workflows & More at Editors' Lounge This Friday Night (Reminder)

It's the XDCAM 50Mbps 4:2:2 that's particularly problematic. No Adobe support... CS6 they tell me. And no QuickTime codec or converter for Windows. Calibrated Software makes one but you have to purchase it. Don't you think Sony should make something to enable you to play the media that their camera makes on all platforms? The consumer stuff, EX1, EX3 etc you can do it but it's 35Mbps max (I believe). In the online stuff for XDCAM 50Mbps they always talk about using it with Mac and FCP... for editing I assume. But let's say you work only in Graphics and you have Windows with AE?

Bummer....

What specifically are you having trouble with?

We just finished our second low budget documentary shot on an EX3. I'm
running MC 3.0 on a really old XP machine, and we had few problems at
all. Not very responsive, but that's more an old, overburdened
processor than anything. Once or twice it "lost" files, but we were
able to re-import without too much trouble. Footage looks great for an
$8k camera, and the work flow wasn't bad at all. Just use Sony's "Clip
Browser" to do your selects, import them into Avid, and go.
