Re: [Avid-L2] Editing HDV MXF media and sequence from Avid 3.5

I think that's around the time DNxHD was ratified as the VC-3 standard. When that happened, Avid put out a press release announcing that Media Compser was the first NLE to support VC-3 (well there's a surprise!), then discovered that they were writing a flag wrong and weren't actually compliant after all. I can't remember what the flag was, but I'd guess something to do with field dominance or that sort of thing.
They would presumably have to add some additional logic so that Media Composer could deal with DNxHD whether it was flagged correctly or not.
None of that would affect HDV material though.

Yes there was a change to make Avid mxf "compliant" with some aspect of the standard.  The patch involved showing package contents on the Avid Application file IIRC.  There was a tutorial step guide available to work through it.  I think it wasn't a video tutorial so I actually was able to learn how to do it.

IIRC without the patch things would playback with a green or half green screen:

If I recall correctly, you may run into another wrinkle…

It was around version 3.5 of Media Composer that AVID made a basic change in the way they wrote MXF media.

I think there was a patch you needed to run in order to make V3.5 versions of Media Composer recognize the MXF media of newer systems.  I don't know if this would have affected HDV versions of the Codec

Anyone else remember what I am talking about?  I worked on a job about 5 years ago where I ran into this.  I can't find a copy of the patch.

I have Media Composer 2018.2.0 with a now unsupported permanent licence on a 2008 Mac Pro 3,1.

I have been asked by a client if I can colour correct an HDV MXF sequence from an Avid 3.5 and then return it as a colour corrected Avid sequence & untouched original media back to the client. I'm assuming that I won't be able to either open the old project with my 2018.2.0 - or certainly not give it back such that he can open the modified project on his MC 3.5. Am I correct?

I also have an older dormant hard disk in my Mac Pro (with an older OS) which has a Media Composer 5.5.5 installer on it (which is the original Avid I bought which was upgraded over the years until I stopped paying at 2018.2.0).

1. If I install 5.5.5 on the other hard disk, can I 'un-licence' my 2018.2.0 and licence & run 5.5.5? If so, how?

2. I stupidly chucked the 5.5.5 installation disks in a clear-out a while back - do I need the old activation key for 5.5.5? If so, where can I find this?

Thanks very much!
