1. The Universal Mastering option requires Nitris DX, or maybe it now also works with DNxIO and DNxIQ. But: only in Digital Cut, playing out in RT.
2. It's not a subscription, but a one-time outright purchase. For the last few years, it was just that, no upgrade fees when you upgrade MC. Can't predict the future decisions of Avid.
I actually like the source-based color correction for offline, as it allows you to grade one instance of shot, where all other instances of that clip or subclip follow automatically — if you want, that is. That's basically the only advantage you get when you're not using the specific hardware.
Not sure why the $99 deal disappeared from the site, but I'd definitely ping them directly.
