[Avid-L2] CPU usage by QT Pro 7 Exporting ProRes falls off 3/4 through?

I'm exporting QT ref DNX 175X out to QT Pro 7 to then export to ProResHQ.  I noticed that initially QT Pro's QT Helper shows in Activity monitor using 600 to 700 percent CPU.  So it's using a bunch of cores.  I've got 3 files going simultaneously on a MacPro 12 core 3.33GHz.  I notice that when the progress bar gets approx 3/4 of the way through the CPU usage drops to next to nothing and the progress bar slows down accordingly.  Curious what this means.  Does QT Pro 7 spend the first 3/4 of the process crunching the media to ProResHQ in some sort of cache and then the last 1/4 is spent copying the media to the target drive?  That would explain the fall off in CPU usage at the last 1/4.  I know when just saving as with QT Pro there is little usage of CPU because it is mostly just moving media to the target folder.

Anybody got any insight as to what's happening under the hood?
