Do you recall if he's talking about the late-2016 iMacs? i.e., the latest/current ones? Or earlier models?

Depends on your work, really. We're about to move from Windows to Mac and I asked a valued colleague about his experience. He said he has one trashcan MacPro and isn't sure he'd buy another. It seems mostly a financial consideration - "You can buy two smoking [iMac] machines for the price of one of those [MacPros]" - but his editing platform may also play into it, as he works primarily in Adobe CC. His company does commercials and short form (they're REALLY busy every two years, which may tell you what kind of work they do). Their work is mostly in HD, but when he's worked in 4k, "Our iMac handles it well but not as well as the trashcan. So if you're wanting fast realtime playback in 4k I'd go with at least one trashcan. It makes a difference. I've tried all three systems out on the same project (4k short film) and my [cheese grater MacPro] tower was useless. The iMac is workable. The trashcan was like I was editing 1080."
