I recently had a requirement to deliver ProRes 444 10 bit files in full range (0-1023). The only way I could figure out reliably how to create them from my AVID HD 4:4:4 RGB 10 bit online was to put them through Resolve on a Mac, which seems to be the only way to actually get the full data range instead of 709 levels.
When trying to output ProRes 444 RGB levels, I either still got 709 levels, or it would drop down to 8 bit. The Mac was running v 7.0.4 Media Composer, and was inconsistent in it's results. My finishing machine was a PC running 8.3.1, but of course wouldn't do ProRes.
I had occasion to review the free training webinar at Moviola on Resolve 12, and I must say I am quite impressed with the edit capabilities it is developing. Certainly a capable replacement for FCP with full color grading and input/output to more file formats than anyone.
I haven't worked on V8.5 of Media Composer yet (on 8.3.1). Has AVID come out with a working full range colorspace yet, or does it still think with headroom at all times?

I'd love avid to release an avid player application like scratch play that would guarantee people see what I see.
