Re: [Avid-L2] exporting to quicktime - very slow

FWIW: In general, I render a continuos upper level track effect like a color effect or visible tc and then export a full rez QT in "same codec". Then put that through Turbo.264 which you can get from Elegato.com (It is also available at the App store but I think it is safer to download the app from Elegato. I once had a problem with the version from the App store that was cured by using one from Elegato directly.) You can continue editing while Turbo compresses and Turbo for H264 is fast though I've never compared it to the Adobe Encoder.

FWIW: I use Expert Render in-out + QT ref export + Adobe Media Encoder all the time to make screening/review copies and final deliverables.  Can’t remember the last time something hiccuped with this work flow.  AME flies on my MP trashcan, so speed is not an issue..

Can Encoder see a QT Ref?  I thought no.  Or maybe I'm thinking of Streamclip.  One of them does not and I think its Encoder.

Either do an Expert Render (all video tracks) before exporting,
or do a Video Mixdown before exporting. That will make things go faster.
I'd also suggest making a QT Reference and using another application to
do the encoding (e.g. Adobe Media Encoder, Sorenson, Compressor, etc.).
That won't make things go faster, but then you can still use Avid at the same time, and
the final quality is generally better than Avid (I'm not why that is, but that's my experience anyway).

Hope that helps,

Benjamin

Hello, I am using MC 7, I am exporting 3 minute clips that take twice as long. I am not exporting at the best quality, director wants that, is there something I could do to make the exports faster.  My project type is 1080p/29.97. Thanks.
