Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Offline to Online 2K titles

In animatte you can export a matte as a pict file, but it's only the current frame, and it's just the matte.  Always thought it was kinda lame, but maybe it could be useful some day.

While in Animatte effect edit, with object shape(s) selected, go to file menu and select "Export Matte PICT". It will save a hicon of your object shape, with feathering.

Now that's a great tip.  Thanks for reminding me of something I had forgotten about or maybe never knew.  I've always hated Avid's inability to export alpha channels.  Sounds like you can with Titles.  Does Avid support any other alpha channel exports in the newer versions.  It seems they've expanded alpha channel imports from ama sources IIRC.  What other forms of alpha channel support don't I know?

You can create titles in an HD or SD project using the existing Title tool, then export them (File Menu>export, with Title Tool active).  You get a file with an alpha (Mac Makes a Pict file, don't recall if that is the format used on PC MC).  The project size determines the raster size of the file.

You can now import that created title as a matte key in any raster sized project, and choose in the import settings wether or not to resize it to the current raster.

This trick of creating exports of titles is how I get exact matches of titles between Mac and PC.  Even with the same fonts and other settings, the Mac version and PC version of Title Tool generated titles never match excatly.  If you export a PICT (which includes the alpha) you get an exact match between platforms.

Avid stopped supporting Title tool a while ago. It doesn't work beyond HD. We are all supposed to be using the New Blue Titler. :-(
