I think I know the answer to this, which is stated in the subject line, but I figure I might as well throw it out there. I have Adobe CS 6 that I bought, and I own and it belongs to me, to vaguely quote Monty Python. I got a project from a network and of course it won't open because it was done in version 13.1 or something. My CS 6, which I'm downloading some updates for, is currently Version 11.2. I've never had luck trying to backwards compatible an AE project. I've things about XML and that things are supposed to go back one version or so but even that has never worked for me.
Is there any way to take an AE 13.1 project and convert it to open in AE 11.2 or whatever the latest CS 6 version is I'm currently updating to? I know this is a pipe dream and I'm assuming the Downward Facing Dog position now, not to align my Chakras or find inner peace, but to allow for an Adobe subscription to be crammed where the Sun don't shine. If I was a real power Adobe user I'd find this less annoying but the change I dropped to get CS 6 stings when it is not longer viable because of Adobe's need to change their business model and to obsolete their own software to force this on me.
I know I'm a big boy and a "professional" and this is the cost of doing business but Adobe didn't even buy me a drink before they had their way with me. I'm not looking forward to the URL walk of shame to sign up for a subscription. I know Avid has paid a development price to maintain backwards compatibility but I appreciate that at least they realize how important that is. Adobe has never bothered with that so I shouldn't be surprised. If it weren't for the common practice nowadays of having a networks graphic department generate an AE project for lower 3rds etc... that is generic and up to the production company to create the individual titles I'd not have this issue.
Maybe Wes could engineer something like an incestuous version of Automatic Duck that will translate an AE project to an earlier AE project? Now that would be something to Quack about!!!
