Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Kona 4: Latency & Playback Issues ?

Although this story is not completely over, here's where dozens of hours of troubleshooting have led to:

-- The 4-6 frames of latency between the MC's Source and Record screens -- and the Io4k video output (HD-SDI or HDMI) -- is very real and documented at AJA.  It is called "Desktop Play Delay" and it is slated to be addressed in a future software release.  Apparently this affects all AJA interfaces, which is interesting because I believe someone in this thread indicated they were not seeing it.  The lack of synchronization on my system is very clear and obvious when playing a clip or sequence -- or when scrubbing frame-by-frame through a shot.  All one has to do is hit play and watch to see if cuts on the Avid GUI screens are in dead sync with the video output of the AJA interface.  I will be interested to learn if someone is seeing perfect sync and what exact device they are using.

-- The problem with Full Quality (Green) playback of AMA clips turned-out to be an issue on my system with Drastic's MediaReactor plugin.  A new software release unexpectedly fixed the problem and Drastic is in the process of further optimizing interoperability with Sony A7s XAVC-S media.

-- There are some lingering, but seemingly low-importance, MC Console errors generated when an Io4k is connected to my system.  Those Console errors are not being seen by AJA on a similarly configured machine -- so there may not be hard resolution to this issue.

-- There were a number of device disconnecting problems with the first Io4k evaluation unit I received.  As of today, those issues seem to have been addressed with the shipment of a new evaluation unit.

One more long shot for you to check out...  May be something you already did, but in the v8.3 manual for media Composer edit guide, there are a series of tweaks they suggest to optimize performance in both Windws and Mac OS.  I think it is around page 68, but search for the word "Optimum" in the PDF and it will show up.  It is a bit more than the usual "disable desktop compositing".  I have had marked improved performance in v8.3 after making these tweaks.

Not sure if it will have an impact on the latency you are seeing, but felt it was worth mentioning.

I look forward to hearing what ultimately happens on this.
