[Avid-L2] Re: OT - QC monkeys attacks again. Help!!!

A flash frame, or in this case flash field, is what I would call an errant field of a different shot at the end of or beginning a cut.  Given your source is 23.976 and you are adding pulldown it's unlikely that you have these flash fields in your down convert.  Those are usually seen on 29.07/54.04 sequences that are being cut from sources with pulldown.  I would speculate they are seeing the split frames of the 2:3 pulldown.  If they  are reviewing in QT player they will only see frames and these often confuses the QC monkeys.  You say they are viewing field by field.  How are they viewing the fields?  In Avid?  I'm not familiar with Adobe's ability to view fields.  That would be my first question.  I've had some people suggest that QC is being done on digital rapids equipment but I don't know if those will step through fields.  Most QC issues like this can be resolved by talking with the QC operator.

Hello everyone,
I'm delivering a down-converted 29.97i Sub-Master that I created from a 23.976 HD source. The SD file has proper and continuous 3:2 cadence and checked on a monitor looks as expected.
The problem is that the QC guy is not approving the SD file because it contains "Flash Frames" when he watch it field by field. Clearly the QC guy, nor the client understand how is the proper way to convert to 29.97i from a 23.976p source.

Before I start a long email trying to explain how and why 3:2 pull down exists and works, I'd like to confirm that there's no other way to do that frame rate conversion that I'm not aware of.

I can't imagine a conversion from 23.976 to 29.97 that doesn't includes "Flash Frames".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, I already feel better. The L-2 can be good for Catharsis ;)

All the best,
Agustin
