Re: [Avid-L2] [FR] + Question

I just saw a thread on the "Fun Frustrating Font Fiasco" (discussed below)
in the group called 'The Avid Editors of Facebook.'
The OP said, "How do I fix this issue with changed fonts in my bin?
I'm extremely frustrated, this should not be an issue in 2014!!"

I feel for the guy.
It's a maddening time-suck, especially when there are many bins.

That's all . . .

I truly appreciate your suggestion Dan, but I should have related
that I tried that some time ago (wasting a good deal of time)
and could not get positive results. Sorry about that.
For me, the number from the top kept changing!
I tried a myriad of things… I'll spare you the details.
Any hints on making it work?

There has to be away to program a "substitute font" and size setting.
Thinking about it a bit more, it could be a User Setting that allows
you to select three or four replacement fonts
(of the Users choosing from the currently installed fonts),
and if all of those are not available, then you could choose from a list of fonts
that are typically installed on both PCs and Macs.
Let's call that "Automatic Substitution."
MC would populate the Auto list after scanning/determining
what standard fonts were actually available/installed.

Both User and Auto font choices would be in descending priority.
If the first User selection is not available it goes to the second, then the third and so on.
If no User fonts, then it's on to the Auto list.

This type of setting would be available in two separate dialog windows,
one for the Project Window, and another for Bins (including the Media Tool).

And I'll put in another plea for this while I'm at it,
just in case the squeaky wheel really does get the grease ;)

FWIW On the font feature request - I looked into this on a recent
project. It seemed like at least on MC 7, there wasn't a particular font
associated with a bin but rather the font's position in the list of
fonts, counting down from the top, which determined the font that was
used. For example, if the font used by the first person was the third
from the top, when you open the project on your system, the AVID uses
the third from top. Rather than changing each bin, it might be easier to
modify your list of fonts. Just a thought.

Still a good feature request tho.
