Besides this, also make sure you check it.
STL has become a bastard child of the subtitling family, as the two big guys in the industry did not want to be compatible...
Option is to export from the SubCap effect to AvidDS text, that is human readable with any text edtitor.
 
If subCap does not get you the desired results (it never works for me for online, as it tends to crop parts of the fonts i normally want to use),
i can also render you a series of PNG's that will look good, but you have to Macro them into your timeline (which is normally a 15 min. cursing operation...)

Make sure they provide an EBU-N19 .stl file as opposed to a SpruceMaestro DVD subtitle file(also carrying the extension .stl)

We are trying to have the German folks who gave us this file, give us an .stl file instead.
