Unfortunately the compounding of mistakes made over the years by Avid has cost them viability. To me, the two single largest mistakes were their arrogance when they owned the market, followed by their unwillingness to invest in their flagship product. Had they invested a fraction of the money they blew on the Pinnacle purchase in modernizing Media Composer, we wouldn't be having this discussion today.


I remember listening to one of Avid's investor conference calls.  I forget which year it was, though I do remember it was the Q2 call, as it happened in July.  Anyway, at some point during this conference call, one of the participants said something to the effect of "The dumbest thing you (Avid) ever did was buy Pinnacle."  That transaction may not have been the Pinnacle of Avid's blunders.
