Without seeing the footage I don't think I can help...
I have some movie footage in online that was originally imported in the traditional manner. The source is a XXX film so I don't know if that would suggest more advanced DRM issues or not. It's SD 720x480 and JVT/AVC Coding. The room with a problem is a new 12 core OS 10.8.4 with MC 6.5.4. I just loaded all the ama plugins but according to the Avid AVCHD is installed automatically in V 6.5.3 and above. At any rate it's a long 1 hour plus clip but it creates a producer task error on the system. If I take the same file into my OS 10.6.8 bay with SNDX 5.5.3.7 the clip works albeit kludge and slow to respond. I get some black screen errors but if I shuttle elsewhere the video comes back and I'm able to transcode the need media after relinking. Just curious if anyone has similar experience and or solution. Is the newer OS a suspect or the newer versions of ama plugin between V 5.5 and V6 and above? Probably no real answer to be had but I figure it doesn't hurt to ask. If I take the .mov and make it a short clip in QT pro it still shows these issues. Exporting to ProRes HQ in QT Pro and the file ama's like butter. In fact given the subject matter there might be butter involved there too. ;-(
