I think if you open the drive mechanism and hold it up to the light you can see the images of the 1's and 0's then it's just a bit of math to get the data code. In fact if you squint I think you can see the images in the light. I remember doing this in the late 90's with a floppy disk and I swear I could see my whole show. Of course being the late 90's I might have been drinking a little bit so my memory could be off. But I'm sure there is a storage medium you can hold up to the light and see your work. It's right on the tip of my tongue. Oh yeah now I remember, DS. ;-)
