These ground breaking innovations would make my life majorly easier right now. The first two involve going back to the way things were, say in Version 4. If any of these things have already landed in MC 7 (about which I know nothing), apologies in advance!
1) A Locator window that works (I will never, ever call them markers): Why, oh why, can't I see the full text field in the tool window? Back in the day, the window was split, and there was a text display box down below. I miss that, but I don't see why the text field itself can't be expanded. I think it's pathetic that I can only see most of the text in the Composer Window, and in some cases, only when I open the locator pop-up itself. And why not bring back the old Avid name? There's no need to imitate FCP this slavishly. Have some corporate pride, people!
2) Audio monitoring: another contemptible, Version 5, FCP like "innovation." There's a toasty place in hell for the designer that decided to make two tiny buttons perform the function that one decent sized button used to perform quite capably. This change is all pain. Give me the option of getting the old singular button back, or at the very least give me keyboard shortcuts for mute and solo for all 24 available tracks.
3) A 21st Century Project Window: There are very few things I miss from FCP 7 when I transition back to Avid, but the more flexible Browser window really is something I long for on a daily basis. I don't see why I can't open an organizational folder into it's own window. I often work within multi-user projects where each editor has their own workspace folder, and creating new bins that fall down to the bottom of a huge list of folders is a major pain in the keister. I want the Project to work like your basic desktop, the only thing that makes sense to me.
There. Better now. Thanks for listening.
Best,
Shirley
