[Avid-L2] Re: hd black levels

It is sort of simple. In SD analog, setup )black_ was at 7.5 except in Japan.

When we started to go component, there was a war and the US stayed at 7.5 even though it didn't need to.

When we went digital component, the powers that be gave in and went with zero black. When we went to HD, we stayed with zero black.

If you have a VTR that downconverts. or a smart scope, they will show you the 7.5 on the converted NTSc... unless you choose not to.

Simple, isn't it? :-0

I am delivering many versions of a spot in HD.  Although I often work in HD my final deliverable is almost always SD.

I created my spot in after effects with whites at 255 and blacks at 0.  I create a DNXhd qt using rgb levels (like I always do in sd).

when I import into avid as RGB and look at the levels on the scope blacks are showing up at 7.5 ire...should this be 0 in HD or am I okay (dont want to have to red render 16 versions so I am trying to get this solved before)
