[Avid-L2] Re: Turnaround edit suggestions?

Thanks for that John. Time to look at Editware again.... Maybe with an Abekas Mira for a full 2002 experience.

Anyone using FastTrack in anger that can chime in?

IP Edit has a bit of a logarithmic learning curve. It can control external switchers, but only via GPI so it's a bit clunky, it does mixes (and wipes!) internally. Captions have to be done externally but can 'replace' that part of the timeline.

The Fastrack is much more powerful, and therefore the learning curve a bit longer. While I like the ability to transition directly within their App, Fastrack does not have the limitations of not controlling external devices or being limited to EVS servers. It's a trade-off, and depends on your requirements. Our newly designed interface which we hope to introduce late January, will be more `Freelance Friendly', with a new keyboard and `on-screen' GUI, making it much more user friendly. We do control the internal mixer and switcher of the Summit servers, and will be adding this capability to our EVS control. We also have a companion NLE proxy editor for the Omneon and K2 servers which interfaces directly to the Fastrack, and our own internal FastLog database which now interfaces directly with the Reel Edit MediaDB (used at Dr. Phil and others) MAMS, as well as other SQL databases. As a side note, Fastrack was used by EVS at the New York networks as the front-end for their Edit-2-Air system used to record and fix errors in the News while it was still being recorded so that it would be ready for rebroadcast to the next time zone 40 seconds later. We can also edit directly into a clip or show that is being played to air. This is what they sold before their IP Edit was completed.
