Hey Greg,
Back in the day (1997-2000) the place I worked for used music bakery http://musicbakery.com/
Not sure how well the library has aged but at the time it had lots of good royalty free tracks with real instruments (and it was very cheap).

We use Extreme and Megatrax a lot for promotion and trailers and stuff, but those are pay-per-use needle drop libraries. We'd love to have a 'backup' library that wouldn't cost anything after the initial purchase.
