Symphony is not going away. We see a product line with differentiated features. You will not see an update to Symphony at NAB, we just performed a major, and I mean major upgrade to the code base with the MC 6 product family update in November. 64 bit took 2 years of engineering, the Open I/O work too 2 years, same for many of the other features including the new UI. All of these features are brand new in the marketplace and new in Media Composer and Symphony and NewsCutter.
This is a promotion to give customers an opportunity for additional color correction, FX functionality and if they have a Nitris DX-Universal mastering. There is a lot of older Media Composer's out there and a whole lot of FCP 7's that people want to upgrade. We're not trying to send a signal, fire-sale, or do anything other than offer a great product that last year cost a whole lot more than $999 to customers that may want it to get their work done. We are able to deliver this because with version 6 we were able to offer a software only version. If you own a MC or an FCP with 3rd party hardware, it may be a good time to upgrade.
Take care and thanks for the feedback!
