Terry, you don't need to duck me... I simply don't think that's a feasible
suggestion. If they rolled everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) from DS into
Symphony then I'd be a very happy bunny because I'd have a more capable
finishing tool at my disposal.
I couldn't care less what my finishing tool is called, I just want all the
bells and whistles.
Now, why don't I think it's feasible? Firstly, because the basic MC
architecture wouldn't support it. To re-write MC to handle RGBA throughout
from capture, through editing and compositing to output would, I would
imagine, be a huge job. Secondly, to throw away MC's antedeluvian effects
structure would piss off a lot of editors that are used to working that way.
If you want a capable finishing tool that can handle complex composites,
works in 32 bit float, handles 4:4:4, has stable and effective file-based
workflows etc etc then buy a DS license. That's far simpler for Avid than
trying to re-write MC from the ground up.

Scott,
You've been on this bandwagon for years, but I don't understand why you
don't say they should merge DS into Symphony instead? Then they could have a
more powerful compositing / finishing tool that fits perfectly in their
existing universe.
