[Avid-L2] problem getting avchd clip with a long duration in Avid 5.0.4

Hi

I've an ongoing problem, and I wonder if any of you have an answer to it.

I have a client (a documentary production), they have a lot of material shot in AVCHD. They have AVID 5.0.4 at their office.

Most of the clips are captured fine, but when the duration of a clip exceeds 45 min Avid stops responding.

My workflow:
- copy the exact folder structure of the cards to an external hard drive.
- I use Clipwrap to rewrap the clips
- I AMA-link to the rewrapped clips
- Transcode

When I AMA-link to a folder with a long clip, the clips come nicely into AVID, but seconds after AVID stops responding.

I've had this problem before, and I tried a lot of things - i.e.
- import - same issue
- AVID 6 - direct AMA to the AVCHD - same issue
- FCP 7 log and transfer - there after AMA or import - same issue - or sometimes my FCP took on the spinning ball of death before the clips even met AVID

The only thing I've had any success with was using Elgato H.264 encoder to convert the AVCHD to H.264 and then import to AVID. But it's a very long process, and I don't know if it was luck or it is the way to go.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Best
