I move media around a lot at the folder structure, doing things like
grouping dailies media files delivered in separate folders into one single
folder on another drive. Sometimes the media in the folder I dropped into
MXF won't show up. Usually I can rename the "1" folder, render an effect to
get MC to create a new "1" folder, move the media into that one and all is
well.
I have some dailies today that won't link no matter what. They all show up
fine on the drive they came in on, but the video files will not be read from
any other drive they are copied to. The audio links, but the video won't.
The copied file appears identical to the original in size, creation date,
permissions but MC won't read it in any other location. I can set up a
single folder under MXF on the destination drive, load the video media only
into it, dump the database, wait a minute while MC scans the drive, open
Media Tool and find nothing.
Consolidating from the original drive works fine, it just can't be done in
the background. It means I will have to work from the transfer drive for
the day and keep it overnight again to consolidate while other people are
needing to use it.
Sometimes I wish we can AMA MXF files, and figuratively shove Composer's
nose into the folder and say "There is the media! Link to it!"
