I just had a kid just starting film school at Tribeca help me do some captioning. I started in a full paid version. Handed it off to him to do the captions in the academic version and he gave it back to me to finish the edit. Worked perfectly. I believe we were both in 5.0x, not 5.5.
I don't think the academic version is ANY different than the standard version.
