Avid qualified. I'm trying to install the MC 5.5.3 patch. I followed
the instructions on the patch installer PDF. (Deactivated software,
uninstalled 5.5.2 patch) When I run the 5.5.3 installer, it goes
through all the steps, but after it finishes copying files, I get the
following error message: "Error 1328. Error applying patch to file C:
\Config.Msi\PTF4.tmp. It has probably been updated by other means,
and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information
contact your patch vendor."
I suggest:
The 5.5.3 patch needs the 5.5.2 patch installed in order for the
install to work. See if you can re-install the 5.5.2 patch, then try
the 5.5.3 patch install again.
I think the directions for patching are different from the
directions for an update. I'd have to check again, but I believe that
you don't need to uninstall previous patches when doing new patches.
In fact if you think about it, you should NOT uninstall when doing a
patch because the new patch probably does not include the previous
patches. Also, as I understand it, the uninstall instructions apply
to Macintosh for updates since PC installations are incremental while
Mac updates are complete installations.
BTW, I personally have never had to deactivate software when doing a
patch or update, but don't go by me . . . I'm on a Mac. ;)
