mean that Avid must have licensed the codec from Apple for inclusion (unless
it was just on Mac, but that would still require a FCP install as it is the
only way to get ProRes encoders).
I've never used the IoHD, but if it's just streaming raw ProRes data over
Firewire and Avid has a ProRes codec built in natively (which I guess it
would have to for export support) then presumably it could capture and
encapsulate the data.
But I also doubt that they'd really put in so much effort for a four-year
old third-party IO device that relies in Firewire for connectivity.
It does strike me, though, that the 'death' of FCP also strikes a pretty
serious blow to ProRes as a professional interchange codec. I recall hearing
that ARRI might look at including DNxHD support in an update for the Alexa.
Without FCP installed there is basically no way to create ProRes media.
